Standards of Satisfactory Academic Progress:  In 34 C.F.R. Section 668.16 (e) the U.S. Department of Education (ED) requires that all institutions who participate in Title IV financial assistance programs to establish, publish and apply "reasonable standards for measuring whether an otherwise eligible student is maintaining satisfactory progress in his or her education program."   Reasonable standards as defined by ED, must be the same or stricter than those for students who are not receiving financial aid, and include a list of elements which are specified in the federal regulations that are defined throughout this document.   ACICS developed its standards of satisfactory progress from this list of basic guidelines and expectations for our member institutions to meet all of the requirements established by ED.  The purpose of this publication is to provide guidance and tools to assist in the implementation of the standards of satisfactory academic progress, outlined in the Accreditation Criteria.
