For nearly 30 years, handwritten file cards were the primary method used by staff for recording the official accreditation and status of colleges and schools accredited by ACICS and its precursor organizations. The handwritten cards provide information about dates of initial accreditation, deferrals, grant expiration dates and other details. The collection includes 60 samples of those handwritten institutional history cards, drawn from a private collection of nearly 1000 records created between 1970 and 2000. All of the samples represent closed institutions or schools whose association with ACICS has ended; names and other identifying information have been redacted; some of the information contained on the cards was not disclosed publically when the institution was accredited with ACICS. For information about how contemporary accrediting decisions are memorialized and disclosed to the public, please go to ACICS Council Actions.
