Smith, former president of Oregon State Board of Higher Education About half of the committee mem-bers represent some phase of educa-tion, and the other half are lay per-sons not connected with the field of education. Preliminary Meetings Prior to the announcement of the committee personnel, the U. S. Office of Education called a meeting of various groups and associations to discuss the scope of the proposed Committee and the basic problems confronting it This meeting, which was one of several such conferences called for similar purposes, was at-tended by Dr. H. D. Hopkins, repre-senting the National Association and Council of Business Schools. On April 19, Dr. J. H. Romani of the U. S. Office of Education met with representatives of The Accrediting Commission for Business Schools and the National Association and Council of Business Schools to gain additional information which would be helpful in preparing material for the Com-mittee. Present at this conference were the following: Dr. J. W. Miller, chairman, The Ac-crediting Commission for Busi-ness Schools; I. W. Stevens, president, National Association and Council of Busi-ness Schools; (Continued on page 2) ANNOUNCEMENT OF CHANCE IN COMPANY NAME AND OWNERSHIP On March 1, the name of the Dean W. Geer Company of Oshkosh, Wisconsin was changed to The Bax-andall Company. The new owner of the company is Ray Baxandall, who has been asso-ciated with the Dean W. Geer Com-pany since 1924. He has been a part-ner in recent years. The company has specialized in publishing printed advertising for private business schools in the United States, Canada, and other English-speaking countries since 1926. Mr. Geer was the manager of Brown's Business College in Jackson-ville, Illinois, and a partner in the Oshkosh Business College, before es-tablishing the Dean W. Geer Com-pany as a mail advertising business in 1919. He will continue as a consultant with The Baxandall Company. He is also Treasurer of the Geer-Murray Advertising Agency, a Director of the First National Bank of Oshkosh, and Vice-President of Ripon Foods, Inc., of Ripon, Wisconsin. Mr. Baxandall will continue as ac-tive manager of The Baxandall Com-pany. In 1954, he received an award for distinguished service to business school education, at the annual meet-ing of the National Association and Council of Business Schools. In Oshkosh, he is active on the ex-ecutive boards of the Boy Scouts, the Camp Fire Girls, and the First Con-gregational Church, and is a member of the Kiwanis Club.
